I’m looking for the simplest way to do use a software synth (like Ableton’s default instrument library) as the “instruments” in TidalCycles. For example, I want to use Ableton’s default piano instrument in TidalCyles with something like s “piano“. Is there a way to add Ableton instruments as MIDI sources, and then follow the Midi docs?
I set up several dedicated midi channels in a templated Ableton project and then define a variable to make the midichanfunctions a little less cumbersome to use (plus I add in some extra functionality of octave and legato for quick changes). I have found that kind of sticking to certain midi channels to run certain things (bass, melody, chords, etc.) has been useful. I can open up a project file from ages ago and know that I won’t have some busy chord pattern firing some bass synth in a low octave.
