No sound from Tidal (Windows)

Hi everyone,
I'm particularly interested in making music with Tidal, so I have installed everything following the steps from the userbase.
I have installed Atom as text editor.
I boot SuperCollider typing SuperDirt.start and I see this message:

SuperDirt: listening to Tidal on port 57120

Then, I boot TidalCycles and i see this message:

Using default GHC system path definition

Then, I write a simple code, d1 $ n "0" # s "toys", but when I press ctrl + enter there is no sound.
I tried to go trough the troubleShooting steps but nothing seems to work.
I have no message of error neither from TidalCycles, nor from SuperDirt.

I use a Scarlett 2i2 USB as external soundcard.

What should I do?

Thanks for your help.

Does Supercollider work? try to execute this in the scide:

(
s.waitForBoot {
	{ SinOsc.ar(440!2)}.play
}
)

do you hear anything?

Yes, I execute the code and I can hear a sine wave now, but still nothing from Tidal

I see it, this log line:

C:\Users\Lorenzo.atom\packages\tidalcycles\lib\BootTidal.hs

Told us that the plugin is trying to load the boottidal from a path that I think it doesn't exist (it miss a backslash between your name and .atom.
Maybe it's a plugin bug.
Try to copy that path, add the missing backslash and add it to the plugin configuration (there's an entry regarding boottidal file path). Restart atom and try to evaluate some tidal code

Sorry, I was away from home. Ok, I tried to check the path, and now seems to be right. When I boot Tidal I have this message now:

Using default GHC system path definition
Ghci command: ghci
Ghc-pkg command: ghc-pkg
Load BootTidal.hs from C:\Users\Lorenzo.atom\packages\tidalcycles\lib\BootTidal.hs

I tried to evaluate a code, but still no sound coming out :slightly_frowning_face:

The path is still wrong..
Try to put the boottidal in another path like c: and try to configure that path in configuration

This is weird, because when I copy the code I can see the backlash, but when I paste it here... it seems to disappear.
Where can I find the plugin configuration? In Atom, in the setting part, I see a config folder, do I have to click there?

It could be a problem with the \. in windows, try to put two backslash before the dot.

The plugin configuration is reachable from the plugin page in atom, search "tidalcycles" then click on settings

Ok, so if I have understood correctly I have to change the path from the tidal's settings on Atom, am I right? Like this?

Yes, this could be a trial. The other cone could be to copy that file into another directory (like C:) and then configure its path there

Okay, I copied the boottidal.hs file in the directory C:, now when I boot tidal I get this error message:

Loaded package environment from C:\Users\Lorenzo\AppData\Roaming\ghc\x86_64-mingw32-8.10.5\environments\default
t>
t> IO error: "C:" permission denied

I think that's a windows issue... try to put it into your user folder and change the configuration accordingly

I tried to put it in different folders (C:\Users, C:\Users\Lorenzo...), but every time the permission is denied. Should I try to uninstall atom and re-install it?

We are at the point where windows is taking over... don't know how to help, maybe someone here knows something.

just wanted to bring this thread to the top. just upgraded tidal from 1.6.1 to 1.7.8 on windows 10 and am having the same issue. the path that points to the boottidal.hs file is throwing an error in atom and when i go into the tidal package settings to configure a new default boot path (using both methods of \ and \\) i am denied permissions

UPDATE: after (unsuccessfully) attempting to set a new boot tidal path in atom's package settings for tidal, the "default" setting now correctly identifies the location of my boottidal.hs file

[TidalCycles version 1.7.8]
Installed in C:\Users\kit_mauldin\AppData\Roaming\cabal\x86_64-windows-ghc-8.6.5\tidal-1.7.8
Listening for external controls on 127.0.0.1:6010

so that's cool. but now the issue appears to be that my default ghci path is not correctly set.

image

so i put a dummy path into the settings, rebooted tidal, and then removed the dummy path to see if i could force atom to find the "correct" location like it did with my boottidal file. it did not.

however, i did also notice that the syntax highlighting is a bit off what it should be. if i remember correctly, d1 should be highlighted blue, not purple.

image

my tidal package is up to date. is this a haskell package thing? there doesn't appear to be any windows support for uninstalling/cleaning up ghc in the docs
